Conservatoire Overview

LAMDA Front DoorThe London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, LAMDA, is a world-leading conservatoire in vocational training for actors, technicians, stage managers, and directors from around the world. The conservatoire is an awarding organization, delivering world-renowned qualifications in communication and performance and inspiring the next generation of confident communicators through examinations in drama, literature and poetry. Located in London, England, LAMDA has trained such actors as Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Doctor Strange, Sherlock), Donald Sutherland (Hunger Games, The Italian Job, Commander in Chief), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit, Captain America), and Ruth Wilson (The Affair, Luther), among others.

Conservatoire training is, by its nature, selective as they train only the best – they limit course numbers and teach in small groups. The ensemble is at the heart of LAMDA's work; drama is a collaborative art form and their training stresses the importance of collaboration to achieve excellence. The training is vocational because drama is a vocation and they are training students for a profession. The training is practical because drama is about doing and being.

LAMDA offers an inventive environment for artistic development; their commissioning and creative program gives artists and practitioners time to reflect, examine their own practice, and contribute to an ever-evolving industry.
