Program Description:
Study in Buenos Aires Plus
IFSA - IFSA STUDY IN BUENOS AIRES PLUS
Geotag  Buenos Aires, Argentina

WHY STUDY IN BUENOS AIRES?
Home to countless cultural and sporting attractions, Buenos Aires is one of the most cosmopolitan societies in the world with a distinctly European air. Known for its sophistication and culture, the city offers unparalleled opportunities to enjoy theatre, music, films, sports, and museums. Although Buenos Aires is expansive, the city’s reliable and inexpensive local transportation make getting around a breeze.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Take your studies in business, economics, psychology, neuroscience, or Spanish to Argentina’s multicultural capital. Choose your own combination of IFSA electives and Spanish language classes (all levels), plus choose a class at Universidad del Salvador or Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, where you can get to know Argentine students. Options for directed research, internships, and volunteering let you explore a particular interest, get an insider’s view of Argentine culture, and contribute to the community around you.

Our Study in Buenos Aries Plus offerings are designed for students with zero to advanced Spanish language experience. Build your own curriculum from IFSA electives and language classes along with one direct-enroll class at Universidad del Salvador (USAL) or Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT) to meet your academic needs and goals. Or choose one of the curated Study in Buenos Aires academic tracks with a focus on business and economics or psychology and neuroscience.

ACADEMIC TRACK OPTION
IFSA Study in Buenos Aires Plus academic track was developed with a focus around a central academic discipline. It includes a specific collection of classes along with an elective class at USAL or UTDT.

The IFSA Study in Buenos Aires Plus: Psychology and Neuroscience academic track focuses on its namesake topics and is ideally situated to take advantage of the location of Argentina, where there are more psychologists per capita than in any other country.

NON-TRACK OPTION
Design your own curriculum based on your own interests and degree requirement with the non-track Study in Buenos Aires Plus option. Choose three to four classes from the following language and electives options, along with one direct-enroll class at Universidad del Salvador (USAL) or Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT), for a total of 14-16 U.S. semester credit hours.

ELECTIVE CLASSES
All courses are worth 3 U.S. semester credits and open to all students without prerequisites.
  • Brain, Drugs, and Addiction
  • Globalization and Economic Challenges in Latin America
  • International Internship Seminar
  • International Political Economy
  • International Trade
  • Intervention Strategies in Mental Health
  • Multicultural Psychology
  • Social Cognition and Neuroscience
  • The Psychology of Crime and Justice

IFSA LANGUAGE CLASSES
Developing skills in a foreign language can profoundly impact your life personally and professionally. Though language study (other than Essential Spanish) is not required, students frequently report their Spanish language class as one of their favorites and the one they applied most outside the classroom.

Essential Spanish
If you’ve never taken Spanish and you decide not to take an elective language class, you’ll take this introductory seminar taught intensively during the first weeks of the program. By introducing key words and phrases and venturing out into the city to practice them, this class also provides insights into local customs and daily life. Right from the start, you’ll gain essential skills to communicate effectively and navigate in a new culture. (1 U.S. semester credit hour)

Spanish Language
No prior language study is required. A mandatory pre-arrival language assessment will determine your appropriate language level. (3 U.S. semester credit hours)
  • Beginning Spanish I
  • Beginning Spanish II
  • Intermediate Spanish I
  • Intermediate Spanish II
  • Advanced Spanish I
  • Advanced Spanish II

USAL AND UTDT DIRECT-ENROLL CLASSES
USAL and UTDT classes are considered the introductory classes to a more specific topic of study and are open to all USAL and UTDT students. Therefore, they are general in scope and do not require extensive background knowledge in the subject. Classes at USAL and UTDT vary by semester and availability may not be confirmed until after you arrive on-site. Featured offerings, worth 3 U.S. semester credit hours each, include the following classes:
  • Argentine History: Social and Political Predicaments
  • Comparative Latin American Political Systems
  • Education Science
  • History of International Relations
  • Political and Social Processes in Latin America
  • Public Policies and Gender
  • Society, Culture and Argentine Politics
  • Urban Inequalities in Latin America

CULTURAL ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS
Boost your ability to understand and connect with people from different cultures through a range of activities designed to help you get to know the people of Buenos Aires. Activities vary by term. They are optional and included in your total program fee. Here’s a look at what you might do:
